Sept 7 Walking Day 1

Today we left Ferrol on foot for the town of Neda.  Feels good to be starting our camino.  Our walk today is approximately 15 km.  It was a little overcast for most of the walk which was nice as it kept things a little cooler.  The high today is 27 and as we approach our destination around 1:30 pm it is getting hot.  We are happy to arrive at our destination.  On our way we saw some beautiful landscapes and had interesting things to explore.  It was interesting to see man unmanned boats floating in the water.  Obviously the tides come in and out here.  We came upon a nice sandy beach which Mathilda explored.  She took the low road and we took the high road.  As she walked she picked up a shell for each of us as the shell is the symbol of the camino.  We also walked by a fortified section of the shoreline.  The block wall was very high to keep intruders out.  Laurie tried to scale the wall but to no avail so we kept on walking.  As we walk many locals wish us Buen Camino.  It is a little different walking with our packs on our back.  Everything I have in Spain travels with me.  Now I know how a turtle feels.  We come across the mosterio of San Martiño which reminds Mathilda that her dad is always nearby.  We stop and say a prayer for him.  Near our destination we come to the 100 km marker.  Only 100 more km and we are there.  We go for lunch and then check into our hotel.  As we explore we find a sign that says “For a while, no camino” so we head back to the hotel to rest up for the walk tomorrow.
